Slugging
Slugging is a timeless skincare hack that has been used throughout history. You may have heard your grandparents recommend putting Vaseline or certain balms on your face before stepping outside in cold weather or before you sleep. That’s slugging! The purpose of slugging is to lock your moisture in overnight or before you are exposed to moisture-stripping weather to ensure your natural oils and overall water retention aren’t diminished from your skin. One pro of slugging is that it is a step that can help any skin type bounce back with ease because slugging products are non-comedogenic and won’t clog up pores. However, those who have active breakouts should stay away from slugging because the process can trap bacteria or irritate acne-fighting ingredients. Slugging is very useful when it comes to helping products like serums and moisturizers underneath the occlusive balm work making it a great option for those in need of a barrier repair. Due to the nature of slugging’s ability to enhance other products' capabilities, it is advised not to use retinol or other actives at the same time as it could cause an adverse

reaction. Interstellar’s Stellar Shimmer Oil works great as a daytime occlusive to lock in moisture before stepping out of the house for those who want a little extra glow to their day.
Skin Cycling
The beauty of skincare is once you realize how much of it goes hand-in-hand everything becomes a lot easier. Skin cycling and slugging are one of those concepts that truly work wonders when both are combined. Skin cycling is when you create a routine of applying actives like retinol, AHA/BHAs, or just exfoliating in general on some days and letting your skin rest on others. People usually make this an “every other day” activity. So for example, you would apply your retinol on Monday, and then on Tuesday you would let your skin rest. Those of us who are sensitive might wait until Thursday or Friday to reapply or exfoliate again. Slugging is great to do on your off days since slugging and actives don’t mix. This is perfect because not only are you allowing your skin to rest and reset while your collagen production stimulates, but you are also helping your skin retain moisture! Interstellar’s Oasis Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Serum for oily, combo skin has mildly exfoliating properties and works great to resurface skin in-between cycling.
Scrubbing
Okay, here it is, the big one! Facial scrubs and manual exfoliating techniques are a controversial conversation in the skincare world. While many people love them, many people tend to shy away from them as they come with a reputation for often being too harsh. The reality is that there are some scrubs that will truly irritate the skin and you will know because your skin will give you clear signs like unusual reddening, heightened sensitivity, or maybe a feeling of raw stinging. It is important to gauge your skin after any exfoliation technique because as needed as exfoliating is you can overdo it if you don’t pay attention. However, when a facial scrub is formulated with gentle, evenly distributed exfoliating agents then it can really provide a refreshed, revitalized glow! Scrubs work great when used once or twice throughout the week. They usually work best when you are also using an active enzyme throughout the week as well to resurface the skin. Always apply facial scrubs very sparingly and gently. Never wipe them off too fast or apply too much pressure. The same rules apply to any facial scrubbing devices. Interstellar's Creamy, Exfoliating Oasis Cleanser is a gentle, creamy exfoliating cleanser made with jojoba beads that do the perfect job of removing built-up dead skin and encouraging new, healthy skin to come in!
